Today's SA blog is right on

September 11th, 2008 at 05:59 pm

My DH was talking to his brother on the phone last weekend.

The brother had a stepson who was deployed to Iraq and came back, suffered from depression, and committed suicide. Make a long story short, the brother and his wife received $500k from life insurance. This was about 2 years ago.

Well, some of you already guessed it.

My brother-in-law and his wife spent it all. Yes, all of it. For what? I honestly do not know, and don't want to know. It's not my business. Bad thing is the brother has a bad heart and cannot work anymore. He will be on disability. His wife never worked. Sigh....

Today's SA blog is very true, "Education" about money is so important. The brother and his wife have no clue about finance, and don't know how to manage money. I think "manage" is a too fancy word in this case, I should say they don't know how to "keep" the money in the bank account.

Some people just make baaaad decisions.... Sad.

What a terrible, terrible thought. To think that the blood money of a soldier's life was wasted away. And for what? It's enough to make me want to slap this brother of yours.

Forgive me. It was a good article wasn't it?

yep...we all have these stories. The thing is you dont think about the need to be educated about money until you get some education and realize how much you dont know.

I agree, what a disrespectful way to treat a soldiers memory.

That story would have been breathtaking to me once. But the big thing I've learned about money is that its a concentrator. If you have money problems, lots of money doesn't ease them, it just makes your problems bigger.

I know. It's really sad. The brother always worked hard as a truck driver, but financially struggled due to bad choices as well as bad heart condition. So, when they got the money, it was a life time opportunity to turn his life around. Then, he blew it. His wife, the soldier's mom, also brew it. I don't know what to say, but I hope it doesn't happen to many people.
