Gym membership

January 4th, 2009 at 01:24 am

One of my goals this year is to maintain my health and decided to spend money to make it clear to myself that I put some efforts in it.

So, here I went to the gym that is a minute away from my house to get a membership quotation.

Initiation fee: $149
Monthly membership: $54 if I pay 6 months in advance, $64 if I pay month to month

I didn't sign up right away, told the guy I will think about it and came home.

This morning, I told my frined and she told me other people joined with only $49 processing fee. Boy, I'm glad I didn't sign up right away!

I'm kind of discouraged by this right now and I didn't go back there to talk to the guy. I'm thinking about next "deal" to come around and sign up when initiation fee goes down to $49.

Or, should I go back and negotiate? Boy, I hate doing it.

I would inform him or even speak to some else that you were referred and was told that the sign up was $49. You could check out their website sometimes it's less expensive to sign up online

This is the time of year that people make the resolution to lose weight. Gyms don't have to offer deals to get people to sign up like they do during the summer. You might want to wait a couple of months to get a better deal.

Agreed. I HATE going to the gym in January - it is jam packed. Then it thins out. YEah, I'd wait a while.

Have you checked out Fitness 19? Very bare bones, but it is VERY cheap, no commitment, and is perfect for us. If you want a pool and a shower though, then you gotta pay big bucks... (Also their $10 membership, the catch is you can only go certain days or hours or something. Very weird. We pay $29/month for the 2 of us. We paid $200 or something for childcare for life. Or until they go out of business... LOVE it).

Thanks guys. You're right about January. My friend told me the same thing.

There's Fitness 19 around the corner from our house, but they don't have what I want, yoga & pool.

However!! I found a deal at 24 hour fitness. It's $199.99 for one year. It is one time deal for new members and it works for me!! It's less than $20, and they have yoga & pool, and open 24 hours. I signed up for it today.
