$1.11 fraud???

February 6th, 2008 at 12:16 am

I found one annoying thing when I was reviewing my online bank statement. I bought a couple of pizzas last Saturday because my DD's friends were spending a night at our house. The receipt was $15.27, but the amount charged to my ATM card was $16.38 that is $1.11 more than the value on the receipt. Unfortunately, I threw away receipt after I wrote down the value in my price book/spending record. I remember someone was talking about a similar experience in his/her blog, but it was a good $1.11 lesson for me not to throw away receipts until confirming how much was actually charged. I think the person thinks nobody will come after for only $1.11, but I will say something next time this type of thing happens to me.

Yesterday was almost no spending day. I decided to go to Rite Aid and pick up a couple of feminine products that are almost free after coupon and rebate. They were $3.50 each, and I used two $2.50 off coupons, and will get $2 from rebate. Tax was 54 cents. So, actual spending for yesterday was 54 cents.

I will not spend anything today, so it will be no spending day today.

Is it a pending or actual transaction? I've noticed that food places will ask for a bigger authorization, but once it comes through it's always the amount I specified. If yours is pending, wait and see if it changes when it actually comes through.

It's not pending status. It's closed and posted. I noticed the same about the food place, so I was waiting for it to be out of pending status and posted. And the final posting value was larger than the on in the receipt. I guess they do it knowing people will make a big deal out of small dollar value.

If I were you'd I'd call them. Have them total up what the pizzas should have cost and if it matches what you wrote down, ask for a refund or coupon. Even without the receipt they might give you the refund, to keep a customer happy. Good luck!

Call them. they can only legally charge what you approved. they can loose their rights to use VISA and MC or other cards because thye are frauding customers. i would just call and ask.

this happened to me a couple years ago. a server wrote in the amount of tip i left in cash when i used my debit card even though i wrote cash in the space where the tip would have been written. he lost hsi job because mamangement could not trust him any more. i did feel bad about that but it was unnecessary and i hope he learned his lesson. I also never went back tot he restuarant to use the gift card they sent me.
