What would you give yourself as a reward?

December 11th, 2007 at 07:19 pm

My 401K is doing good, not as good as last two or three years, but still good for me as long as it is growing, not shrinking. The account balance grew about 20K this year.

I received my incentive pay-out letter. After paying tax & 401K contribution, I still get about 2K. Nice thing is the pay-out is on 12th that is my birthday. I feel like I received a nice birthday present.

Here's the magic number. 20K growth in 401K, 2K bonus, so, I decided to give myself $200 reward. I mean, "I can totally waste it if I want to" kind of money. Saving and investing is out of picture. It has to be fun and rewarding. What would you do with $200?

By the way, the rest of my bonus will go towards my tuition for next semester ($1300), and $500 will be spent towards holiday gifts for my family and friends.

Whee! So fun! I would buy some diamond jewelry (making maximum use of deals, coupons, or even going to the wholesale district in LA).

I would be tempted to give myself an afternoon spa treatment (facial and massage), or a daytrip scooting on one of the nearby islands.

I would upgrade my Netflix subscription from the $4.99 to the $16.99 level for an entire year! That would take care of $144. With the remaining $56, I'd take my DH out to a nice dinner and actually order a fancy mixed drink in the restaurant (I'm a "just water please" gal so a drink would be a totally frivilous splurge).

Enjoy your splurge, whatever you decide to do.

Thanks for great ideas! Diamond, spa, and good food... Everything sounds so good, and it helps to get other people's ideas. I didn't think of a mixed drink! I am also one of those "just water" people, and always hesitated to order those $10 a glass drinks. What a great idea!
Planning to waste $200 may be more fun than actual spending LOL
